Valeriu Tabără, president of ASAS and former Minister of Agriculture, has passed away. The university professor was hospitalized in Timișoara due to heart issues. Valeriu Tabără, president of the Gheorghe Ionescu-Sisești Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, died on Tuesday, April 29, in Timișoara.
The former Minister of Agriculture, Valeriu Tabără, ran for a fifth term as a deputy in the electoral district of Recaș in Timiș County but lost the elections, receiving only 19.74% of the votes compared to his USL opponent, county councilor Cătălin Tiuch, who garnered 55.17%.
Valeriu Tabără was born on July 1, 1949, in Sălciua, Alba County. At the age of 34, he earned a doctorate in agronomy and later became a lecturer and university professor.
He returned home to Timișoara for Easter, celebrating with family, but on Thursday he felt unwell and was readmitted to the Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Timișoara.
He passed away on Tuesday due to cardiorespiratory failure.
Most likely, he will be laid out in the lobby of the Faculty of Agronomy on Wednesday for those wishing to pay their respects.
He served as Minister of Agriculture from 1994 to 1996 in the Văcăroiu Government, and again from 2010 to 2012 in the Boc Government.
He was a deputy for Timiș from 1992 to 2000 and again from 2004 to 2012.
He withdrew from politics in 2012. At the time of his passing, Valeriu Tabără was president.
